McKinley Surgery Day

Prior to surgery, neurosurgery felt that the tumor was in an easily operable spot and that removal would take about 2-3 hours with a one night ICU stay and then home.  Unfortunately, when they started the surgery they discovered the tumor was much  more involved than they thought.  Surgery ended up lasting almost 11 hours and she woke up unable to move her right leg.  The day after surgery she also started to lose movement in her right arm.  Her ICU stay ended up being much longer than expected with a lot of twists and turns and ups and downs.  At one point we were talking about inpatient rehab to get her walking again, but then she started making rapid improvements and was able to go home with outpatient Physical Therapy.

Unfortunately, while at church one day started having arm tingling.  We called neurosurgery and they asked that she come to the ED.  When we got there neurosurgery said that without getting an MRI they would recommend surgery to remove the tumor since the seizures were continuing.  She was admitted that afternoon with surgery scheduled for the next morning.  On the way to the hospital we had our traditional Culver's cheese curds and she asked me to pack her stuffies and hospital blanket to take along.
