McKinley Jane and Grant Alan

Saturday nights one year ago (I'm the one in the pink wig) Saturday nights now (I was in bed by 7:30 p.m.) It's amazing how things have changed in the past year and I must say that I'm extremely blessed. While I'm sleep deprived and haven't done my hair for about 6 months there's nothing more amazing than having these two little ones home and healthy! Lots of exciting stuff the past two weeks. We had our newborn pics taken last week and the photographer did a great job again. We took a visit to see my friend Misty and her two boys who are about 6 months. Then my sister, Darl, came to visit this week and we took a trip with the babies up to Sedona. They did so good..not one crying fit and they just hung out in the stroller or Baby Bjorn while we walked around. Not one peep during the two hour drive there or back. We had their 2 month check up with the pediatrician and everything looks good. Their current weights are McKinley 6 lb 12 oz and Grant 7 lb. 9 oz. They...

Last week was a busy week with multiple doctor appointments. Since they were premature and under a specific weight they have to have their eyes checked until their 40 week due date and those appointments are not fun! They take wire holders to hold open their eyes and then poke around for about 5 minutes while the baby is screaming. I'll be glad when those appointments are finished. They also got to accompany me to an OB appointment since Chad was at work and they were very well behaved! Sunday they watched their first Raiders football game when we met some friends out for dinner...the Raiders won by the way! The differences in their personalities are really starting to show and they're exactly opposite of what they were in the womb. Grant is very patient and rarely cries. He'll wait patiently while McKinley eats and just sucks his thumb. He loves to cuddle and is great to take naps with. He's sleeping about 4-5 hours at night. McKinley obviously got my persona...

It's been a week at home and so far things are going great. The babies are both doing so well with their eating and have grown a ton the past week. Current weights are McKinley 5 lb. 4 oz, Grant 5 lb. 15 oz. They're still on the apnea and bradycardia monitors and per our pediatrician they usually keep them on 2 months past their original due date (Nov. 4). We primarily just use it for when they're sleeping though...don't tell our pediatrician that though! They are great travelers and love being in the car or in the stroller. We try to get out at least once a day for a walk and even took a trip to visit Katy and Todd this week between doctor appointments. All the animals have adjusted well to the babies being home. However, if anyone wants a very large yellow cat please feel free to call me! Our leftover milk from the hospital...we thought it would just be a few bottles! Hadley guarding the babies

Well, as you could tell from our previous post the babies were discharged from the hospital yesterday and we have been home now for almost 24 hours. Yesterday was supposed to be my scheduled c-section date so I find it very ironic that it's the day they were discharged. The hospital has a program where the night before you are discharged they put you in an apartment off the NICU and they give you a trial run of how it feels taking care of the babies by yourself so we did that on Monday night. They are both 36 weeks (33 days) old now and growing so fast! McKinley is currently 4 lb. 11 oz and Grant is 5 lb. 8 oz. Both are doing so good with their eating...Grant tends to be a little lazier though. His reflux is much improved but he is still having episodes so they sent both babies home on apnea (loss of breathing) and bradycardia (slow heartrate) monitors. It's been 26 days since the babies have been born and while the first 3 weeks flew by I'm definately getting anxious to have both babies at home where we can get into a normal routine. We moved out of the NICU into the Continuing Care Nursery about a week ago and they have done great. Since moving to the nursery they have been cobedding in an open crib. Our main goals we're working towards is getting them to bottle/breastfeed on a regular basis and then they can go home. McKinley is a total foodie and loves eating on her own. She's been taking almost all of her feedings on her own for about 48 hours now, which means she's getting very close to discharge. I know discharge has been talked about by the doctors, but I don't even want to ask for a date in case it doesn't happen. She currently weighs 4 lbs 3 oz. Grant is improving with his feedings but is battling AWFUL reflux. He has it bad enough that it causes him to hold his breath which then makes his heartra...
