Home Sweet Home Part 2

Well, as you could tell from our previous post the babies were discharged from the hospital yesterday and we have been home now for almost 24 hours. Yesterday was supposed to be my scheduled c-section date so I find it very ironic that it's the day they were discharged. The hospital has a program where the night before you are discharged they put you in an apartment off the NICU and they give you a trial run of how it feels taking care of the babies by yourself so we did that on Monday night.

They are both 36 weeks (33 days) old now and growing so fast! McKinley is currently 4 lb. 11 oz and Grant is 5 lb. 8 oz. Both are doing so good with their eating...Grant tends to be a little lazier though. His reflux is much improved but he is still having episodes so they sent both babies home on apnea (loss of breathing) and bradycardia (slow heartrate) monitors. Other than having to drag the cords and machines around I don't mind it because it really gives me peace of mind, especially at night.

We had our first outing today to go visit the pediatrician and it went amazingly well. Both babies thought this visit was a breeze compared to the poking and prodding they went through during their hospital stay! People have been calling interested in visiting and we're definately open to people coming to meet the babies, however, because of their prematurity and the fact that it's RSV season there are some rules we have to adhere to so I wanted to lay them out before anyone comes to avoid any problems:

1. Handwashing, handwashing, handwashing

2. If you have been exposed to any illnesses, are sick, or even feel like you may be getting sick PLEASE wait until the chance of exposure to them has passed until you come and visit.

3. No exposure to any kids..especially school age kids due to RSV exposure.

We hate to have to be so picky, but we've spent a lot of time in the hospital and really don't want to end up there again. Their immune systems are compromised due to their age and a simple cold can make them really sick.
