9 month update

We are officially at the 9 month mark and had their 9 month check ups recently. They seem to be growing and developing in leaps and bounds at this stage and it's so much fun to watch!

Grant:

For everything concerning development and growth they go by their adjusted age (which is based on their due date) which is 7 months old. As far as growth he's in the 30th percentile for height and weight based on 7 months and as far as small motor and gross motor he's at a 9 month level. He weighed in at a whopping 15 lbs. 5 oz. so they're little guys. He loves sitting and playing with toys and can pull up on his knees. He can't pull to standing quite yet but loves to stand and hang onto things independently. He has zero interest in crawling and the developmental specialist that sees them thinks he might just skip over crawling and go to walking. At his last checkup the only concern they had was that his soft spot is closed which is a little early so they're referring us to a neurosurgeon who will monitor his head growth and make sure he keeps developing on schedule. Chances of them having to do anything about it are slim, but they just want to monitor things at this point. He is still my little cuddle bug and I love that he loves to be close by mommy and daddy. At storytime he loves to sit right by me and turns around often to make sure I'm still there. His favorite thing right now is the "Where is Baby's Belly Button" book and will crack up the minute he sees it!

McKinley:

At her check up she weighed 15 lb. 3 oz. and is also in the 30th percentile based on 7 months. Her gross motor is at a 9 month or higher level and the pediatrician doesn't think its much longer until she walks. She's changed so much in the last couple of weeks as far as gross motor is concerned and we're having quite the time trying to quickly get the house baby proofed. She quickly picked up crawling about a month ago and after about a week decided that wasn't interesting enough so she has moved onto standing on everything. She can pull up on just about anything including other kids (at church she got them kicked out of the infant daycare...I guess the other kids don't like her standing on them so they're moved to the crawlers class!) She stands at her crib rail each morning screaming out until she sees you walk by. Her new thing right now is to climb up stairs...oy-vay! I love how easy it is to make her smile and laugh and how social she is. While Grant likes to sit right by me at storytime, she spends her time making social rounds, digging in people's purses, and playing with their toenails...especially if they have any kind of design on them! We're in the process of buying her the book series "Hands Are Not for Hitting" and "Teeth are Not for Biting" because I have a feeling in the very near future those will be needed :-)

They love our daily outings to various places. If they're with Daddy for the day they often go to Home Depot and walk around. They are such easy going babies and no matter what situation you put them in they seem to just adapt and have a good time.

Bye-bye to my trusty friend. At about 8 1/2 month I completely weaned and then they had enough frozen breastmilk to last them until about 9 months.
